Condemned to Do Nothing: Recovery, Rest, and Unexpected Delays

Leni’s Favorite Activity—Now Mine Too

Leni’s favorite activity, after playing, eating, and cuddling, is definitely “doing nothing.” As you can see here. But I’m also condemned to this for quite some time. Longer than I thought. But let’s start from the beginning:

A Visit to the Surgeon: Stitches Out, Surprise In

This morning I had an appointment with my surgeon. The stitches were removed. It wasn’t all that easy, as my surgeon was determined to create a beautiful scar, unlike the ones I got at the hospital. And I have to say, he seems to have succeeded. He’s trying to persuade me to have the rest of the scar redone as well. Sure, they’re not really pretty, but honestly, I don’t care how they look; I’m not that vain.

Return to Work? Not Anytime Soon

Since I assumed I would be able to go back to work at the beginning of February, I wanted to find out what the next steps would be and what my return to work would look like. After a bit of back and forth, it finally became clear to me that reintegration was not an issue, but not until the end of February. Until then, I’ll keep quiet so that it has time to heal. I might even have an MRI scan to check that the meshes are really there and stay where they’re supposed to be. I admit I was a bit shocked. Before the operation, they said I would “only” be able to work for three weeks, after that it was four, and now it’s seven. And that’s only if I don’t do anything strenuous physical afterwards.

The Dreaded Question: Can I Exercise?

To be honest, I was almost too scared to ask what the situation was with sports, but I did it anyway. The answer: JOKER!!! Of course, that’s also going to have to wait until the end of February.

The Plan Until Then: Walks, DVDs, and Desk Cleanups

Okay, I don’t feel super fit yet, but doing nothing for another five and a half weeks is a long time. I want to get back to work. However, I also don’t want something in my stomach to rupture again and require me to go under the knife again. So I guess I’ll just have to bite the bullet and continue taking long walks with Leni and binge-watching lots of good TV series on DVD. And also with those unpopular things that usually just get left undone or pushed aside. Resetting the PC and tidying up my desk, for example. More on that soon.
